The Beginning
1979
In 1979, Julius McKinney sought out a need for a BBQ Resturant in the 200 block of 9th Avenue West (now MLK Blvd.) Bradenton, FL. Julius later huddled up with his wife Lucille and son Johnny and together they came up with the name J&J Bar-B-Que, standing for Johnny & Julius. They opened J&J Bar-B-Que Resturant in December 1979, along side Johnny’s grandfather, Anderson Carnegie as the BBQ Master. They took Manatee County by storm and soon had to upgrade, relocating to 2620 9th Street West, which became a local landmark.
The First Venture
2014
In 2014 Johnny decided to close the restaurant and focus more on festivals and events.
J & J Bar-B-Que has been a trusted caterer for 100+ festivals, corporate parties, birthdays, weddings, and so much more since 1982. Today, J & J Bar-B-Que has traveled all across the west coast of Florida, from Lakeland to Fort Myers. Accommodating 20 to 2000 customers, J&J has truly been able to create unique and memorable experiences.

In 2021 Johnny’s daughter, Jessica decided to partner with her Dad full-time.
